We use a variety of healing dressings at Crucible Tattoo Co. Please use the instructions relevant to the dressing your artist has used for you.

General Healing Tips

• The tattoo may scab and itch as it heals, but please avoid scratching your healing tattoo.
• Do not submerge or soak your healing tattoo. No baths or swimming for at least 2 weeks.
• Do not allow direct sunlight on your fresh tattoo. Keep it covered up; both sunburn and sunscreen may affect the way it heals.
• During the healing process make sure your hands are clean before applying any aftercare product.

Cling Wrap

• Leave cling wrap on for 2-4 hours after your new tattoo has been wrapped.
• Take off cling wrap and wash gently with unscented soap and warm water. Pat dry with a clean towel. 
• Apply healing solution of your choice, covering the entire tattoo. Do not saturate the tattoo with healing solution. You want to be able to see the tattoo clearly after moisturising.
• Apply solution 2-3 times per day for 2 weeks.
• Remember to clean your tattoo with warm soapy water in the shower each day of the initial healing period (2 weeks).

White Dressing (Fixomull)

• ​Keep the dressings on for 7 days (unless your artist has instructed otherwise). Shower as normal for the week. 
• After 7 days soak the dressing in the shower for 5-10 minutes, then remove very slowly and gently. 
• It can help to soak the dressing in coconut oil or baby oil before removal.
• There will be ink transfer on the dressing, this is normal.
• After removal keep your tattoo clean and moisturise as desired.

Clear Dressing (Second Skin/Opsite)

• Leave the clear dressing on for 4-7 days. You artist will instruct you based on the tattoo.
• There may be a build up of plasma under the dressing. This is normal and helps with the healing process.
• If the dressing leaks remove it immediately to avoid contamination. Wash the tattoo with unscented soap and warm water. Pat dry with a clean towel.
• To remove, peel up a corner of the dressing. Pull the film off slowly by holding the skin taut and pulling the film away from the tattoo. Pull across the skin, not up and away from the skin.
• After removal keep your tattoo clean and use aftercare cream as needed.
